George III "Cat" Or Plate Stand

An unusual item often identified as a plate stand. (The notched upper arms will accommodate various diameter of plate) but which Pinto in his extensive work,"Treen",suggests it was to hold a work basket or flower bowl. See p. 324 & illustration # 349. As a plate stand, it could certainly function as a very portable table for food, drink or a candle.
