Two Similar Bedside Cupboards By Gilllows
Nicely Coloured Near Pair of Regency Period Bedside Cupboards. Shaped three-quarter gallery with reeded edge. Panelled stiles flanking the cupboard doors. Legs turned & tapered. Nicely patinated figured
wood. One signed in graphite to the bottom, :"James Whiteside/1822". Whiteside is listed as working for Gillows in 1822. See Stuart, "Gillows of Lancaster & London", Vol II, p. 297. A hand-drawn design for a bedside table by Gillows & dated 1834, has the same width & depth & height. It also indicates a reeded gallery & panelled stiles.
