Regency Period Giltwood Convex Mirror
Nicely carved. The crest formed of addorsed eagles' heads, each with a chain in its beak hung with a carved tassel. Their feathered necks sweep down to lapped oak leaves. Centering a lobe-based column topped with a plinth with gadrooned-edge platform. The base centres a patera carved with lion mask issuing oak leaves. The eagle & oak are attributes of Zeus, while the lion is the attribute of Britannia.The original mirror plate framed by a step-moulded ebonized slip, all within a deeply moulded frame set with a cylindrical roundel with oak leaf clasps.
