Queen Anne Bureau In Figured Walnut.
Beautifully figured, the top, sides, fall-front & drawers all with feather-banding. The interior with arcaded cubby-holes, drawers & a slide enclosing a well & secret compartment. The exterior drawers framed with double half-round moulding. Pierced brass handles not original but dating to c. 1740. Bold edge moulding to the base. Bun feet apparently original. A similar broad base moulding can be found on a bureau cabinet attributed to John Belchier. See Christie's Important English Furniture, Nov. 30, 2000, Lot 50.
