George II Adjustable Reading Stand In Mahogany
The hinged top supported on a folding easel back, the front with a shaped ledge. A pair of swing-out candle stands below. The height adjusted with a sphere-handled "set-screw". Supported on a turned Doric column above 3 downswept legs to pointed pad feet, the junction of the legs to the column nicely scalloped. See Regional Furniture, 2004, p. 41, for similar pieces offered by Potter, working in London, c. 1740.
